Curious Harbor Seal pup perching Harbor seals are widely distributed in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. They are strong swimmers capable of remaining underwater for up to twenty minutes before surfacing. They can also dive to depths of 600 feet. Fishing in both fresh and ocean waters, they eat a variety of fish and shellfish and feed shrimp and other small prey items to their newly weaned pups. Harbor seals take a break to loll and rest on sandflats and rocky islands particularly at low tide. .
