"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.  It is the source of all true art and science.  He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead - his eyes are closed."
Albert Einstein

The title to this book tells all:  Don't expect a detailed analysis of metering techniques or a typical "how-to" photography guide.  This book is about the art of seeing and communicating through photography.  Art Wolfe, celebrated nature photographer, and Martha Hill, a former photo editor of Audubon, analyze Art's photographs and discuss how even minor changes in composition or lighting can radically alter both the message and power of a photograph. John Shaw's how to books are unparalleled for both the clarity of his writing and the beauty of his illustrations.  He makes no assumptions that you know anything and builds your understanding, step by step, to a level where most pros will learn more than a thing or two.

John Shaw's Business of Nature Photography : A Professional's Guide to Marketing and Managing a Successful Nature Photography Business ~ Ships in 2-3 days

 John Shaw / Hardcover / Published 1997
If you're new to the marketing end of photography, John Shaw's book can help you enter the nature field without setting off the "novice" alarms in photo editors' offices.  Shaw discusses equipment choices, filing systems, target markets, image presentation and much more in this useful guide to the business of nature photography.  He includes samples of consignment memos, model releases and queries.  Shaw is also honest: competition is stiff in the nature field, prices are deflated and expenses can be high.  But if your heart beats best in the wild, add this book to your bookshelf and benefit from Shaw's years of experience.  Includes beautiful photography by Shaw. John Shaw's Closeups in Nature ~ Usually ships in 24 hours
 John Shaw / Paperback / Published 1987
Although published in 1987, this book remains one of the best primers on macro photography that I've read.  Shaw wrote his chapter on equipment and lens choices before the invention of Fuji Velvia and autofocus lenses, yet much of the information he provides remains useful.  He discusses closeups with extension, choice of lenses, electronic flash, stacking lenses and the use of supplementary lenses and teleconverters.   If you've ever wanted to photograph the scales of a butterfly, a snowflake or a mating damselfly, I recommend this guide to the photography of rarely seen details of our world.
